Pupils at Heathside Prep School engaged in a creative learning experience through a visit by a professional journalist, Nathalie Raffray. The session, initiated by a seven-year-old pupil aspiring to be a journalist, involved around 35 children aged six to 11. They explored newspaper layout, content, and the various components that go into making a publication. Deputy headteacher Zoe Humphrey highlighted that the children gained valuable insights into journalism and how their education can guide them towards future careers in the field. Their enthusiasm while creating their own newsletters was a notable outcome of the experience.
Around 35 curious youngsters aged six to 11 gathered in the school's creative hub and asked questions ranging from "do you write about one thing or lots of things" to "is being a journalist dangerous?"
Nathalie's visit allowed the children to understand what a career in journalism could entail and how their current learning at school could lead to that.
