Lincoln University required 115 postgraduate students to retake an in-person coding exam after an instructor concluded some had used AI to generate solutions. An emailed notice cited a "high number of suspected cases" of "unethical" AI use and said the probability that many students simply had prior coding experience was low. The instructor and department head invoked school policies and mandated reassessment in person with verbal defense of code to ensure fairness. The instructor emphasized that students who wrote their own code could explain it. Many students reported feeling unfairly suspected and pressured by the process.
