Multiple Southern California high school teams produced dramatic openers and standout player performances. Birmingham defeated Hart as Jimmy Renteria caught a touchdown pass, scored on a fake punt and Kevin Hawkins rushed for 150 yards. Chris Fields III showed dual-threat ability, completing 15 of 23 passes for 195 yards and two TDs while rushing eight times for 78 yards. Kennedy edged Eagle Rock 59-56 as Diego Montes excelled and Eagle Rock's Liam Pasten threw a school-record seven touchdown passes. Carson fell narrowly to Villa Park. Palisades plans to deploy a passing duo of Jack Thomas and Demare Dezeurn.
