Bohemians entered the mid-season break in second place after a comfortable 3-1 win over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds. Douglas James-Taylor, Colm Whelan, and Connor Parsons scored for Bohs, who bounced back from a defeat to Shamrock Rovers. Bohs dominated early and led 1-0 at half-time, with Dawson Devoy creating the opening for Harry Vaughan, who set up James-Taylor. Pressure continued after the break, and Whelan doubled the lead four minutes into the second half by finishing from the left into an empty net. Ryan O'Kane pulled one back for Sligo, but Parsons scored late to seal the win.
"The visitors dominated the early exchanges, and although holding a 1-0 lead at half-time, manager Alan Reynolds probably felt that lead could have been more. The visitors had Sligo pinned in their own half for large periods of the opening half, as Bohs saw a lot of the ball. The breakthrough came on 27 minutes, when Dawson Devoy set Harry Vaughan off on a driving run, with the Hull loanee finding the run of James-Taylor down the left-hand side."
"The former Drogheda striker kept his composure and tucked his shot in past Sam Sargeant at a tricky angle, to give Bohs the lead. Dayle Rooney drilled a shot wide moments later, as Bohs continued to apply serious pressure to the Sligo defence. The second-half was more open, but that was to Sligo's detriment as Bohs added a second four minutes into the half from Whelan, who scored a hat-trick at the Showgrounds earlier in the season."
"Sargeant came well off his line as the impressive Vaughan teed up Whelan, who struck into an empty net from the left side. Sligo responded with a goal from Ryan O'Kane after a dangerous cross from Will Fitzgerald, and that strike lifted the home side. But hopes of salvaging anything from this game were ended on 83 minutes when Parsons added a third, after a nice build-up involving Devoy and Ross Tierney, who played a big part in an important win for Reynolds' men."
