Former Tottenham coach was asked to stay but left 'pointless' situation
"He was allowed to stay. They even asked him to stay. All other coaches, all Scandinavian, left. And after three weeks, they told him: 'Please stay and see out your contract here.' That's quite an achievement for someone who worked there for three weeks."
"But he said: 'Yes, but now Igor Tudor, a Croatian coach, is coming with a whole staff for three or four months'. That man is always hired for emergency jobs. That almost never works. Why they did that is a mystery to me. And then another coach will come in."
"He said, 'This is pointless, Rob. I have to leave now'. The situation involved temporary management appointments with separate coaching staffs, making Heitinga's position unsustainable and leading to his decision to depart Tottenham."
John Heitinga was appointed as a coach at Tottenham in January under manager Thomas Frank. After Frank's dismissal following poor results, Tottenham asked Heitinga to remain despite his brief 32-day tenure. Heitinga considered staying and potentially becoming manager, but ultimately left the club. His agent Rob Jansen explained that Heitinga felt continuing under interim manager Igor Tudor, who was hired temporarily with his own coaching staff, would be futile. Heitinga recognized the pattern of temporary appointments and believed another manager would arrive with additional staff, making his position untenable and pointless to maintain.
