
Southampton appealed their removal from the Championship play-offs, stating the sanction is manifestly disproportionate to previous sanctions in English football. An EFL independent disciplinary commission expelled Southampton from the play-offs and reinstated Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough are set to face Hull City in the final on Saturday. Southampton were also deducted four points in the Championship next season. Southampton’s appeal will be heard by an independent league arbitration panel later on Wednesday. The club said it cannot accept a sanction that bears no proportion to the offence.
