Stalemate between Derry City and St Patrick's Athletic as Candystripes' winless run stretches to five games
Derry City and St Patrick's Athletic played to a goalless draw at Celtic Park. The result marked five games without a win for Tiernan Lynch’s side and the ninth league draw in 18 matches. James McClean returned after a red card and nearly scored early, but his header was off target. Joseph Anang made a superb save to deny Derry, and Derry also missed a clear chance after the restart when James Olayinka was unmarked. St Patrick's Athletic had their first shot on target after 75 minutes, requiring a strong save from Eddie Beach. Henry Rylah missed a late chance in added time.
"There was no separating Derry City and St Patrick's Athletic at Celtic Park. It is now five games without a win for Tiernan Lynch and his players, this the ninth draw in 18 league games."
"James McClean almost celebrated his 100 th Derry City appearance with a goal inside the first five minutes. Back in the team for the first time since his red card at Dundalk last month, McClean got on the end of a teasing cross from Kevin Dos Santos, but his glancing header was just off target."
"It took a superb save from Joseph Anang to deny the home side on 14 minutes. Adam O'Reilly's pass picked out the run of Dos Santos into the area, and his first-time effort from 18 yards brought out the best of the St Pat's goalkeeper, who pushed it away for a corner."
"It took St Pat's 75 minutes before they managed their first shot on target and it needed a strong save from Eddie Beach to keep them out when substitute Romal Palmer set up the dangerous Kian Leavy, whose sweeping shot was pushed over by the City goalkeeper."
