Who has won the most league titles in England?
Briefly

Liverpool has equaled Manchester United's record of 20 top-flight titles by winning the 2024-25 Premier League. While Liverpool's dominance was seen mainly from the 1970s to the 80s, with 18 titles won before the Premier League's inception, Manchester United gained ground under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning all 13 of their titles between 1993 and 2013. Despite being leaders for years, Manchester United has not won a title since Ferguson's retirement, while Liverpool's recent success under Arne Slot has emerged, reviving their competitive legacy in English football.
In 2002, with seven Premier League titles under his belt, Ferguson appeared to be under pressure after Arsenal finished 10 points ahead of United to win the league. The Scot was asked if that was his greatest challenge. "My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their [expletive] perch. And you can print that."
Liverpool secured their 19 league title when they lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time in June 2020 - their 30-year wait delayed ever so slightly by the Covid-19 pandemic. Success this year under Arne Slot moved them level with United.
