China experiences record number of hot days since March

The heatwave in China has resulted in unprecedented energy demand due to the increased use of air conditioning and fans. The China Meteorological Administration recorded the highest number of high-temperature days since mid-March. Since mid-July, 152 observatories reported temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Sweltering temperatures have stretched across densely populated areas, affecting more than 200 million people. Some regions are experiencing apparent temperatures reaching up to 50C. The extreme heat threatens agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare services throughout the country.

The ongoing heatwave has affected areas home to over 200 million people, stretching from Chongqing to Guangzhou, leading to increased reliance on air conditioning.
In central provinces, apparent temperatures were forecast to reach as high as 50C, impacting not just comfort, but also agriculture and healthcare services.
With the Sanfu season running until August 19, the extreme heat is expected to continue posing threats to crop yields and manufacturing operations.
