Council secures 2.25m to make homes more energy efficient
Briefly

Funding has been allocated to improve household energy efficiency in Waltham Forest, including 1.7 million from the Warmer Homes London initiative for low-income residents in homes with EPC ratings D to G. Additionally, 512,000 has been designated for solar panels on 100 council homes with low EPC ratings. This funding is part of a larger 78 million initiative by multiple boroughs and housing associations aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency. The Warm Homes: Local Grant will finance various energy-saving measures, with an application process soon to begin for residents.
The funding includes 1.7 million from the Greater London Authority's Warmer Homes London initiative, supporting residents on lower incomes in privately owned or rented homes with Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of D to G.
A further 512,000 has been allocated from the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund for installing solar panels on 100 council homes with EPC ratings of D or below.
The funding is part of a wider bid by a coalition of 20 London boroughs and six housing associations, which collectively secured almost 78 million for improving energy efficiency in social housing across the capital.
Councillor Ahsan Khan stated, 'It's vital that homes across Waltham Forest become more energy efficient. Reducing the amount of energy homes need and improving how well they store heat will tackle the climate emergency and fuel poverty.'
