"The NWS San Francisco CA says to prepare for, Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous, according to the NWS. If driving, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Patchy dense fog will result in sudden changes in visibility. Visibility at times will fall below one-quarter of a mile. Use your low beam headlights, slow down, and be prepared for periods of hazardous driving conditions."
"When a dense fog advisory is issued for your area, it means that widespread dense fog has developed and visibility can plummet to a quarter-mile or less. These conditions pose challenges for travel, so exercise extra caution on the road or consider postponing your trip if possible. If you must venture out in foggy conditions, keep these safety tips from the NWS in mind:"
The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for North Bay Interior Valleys in effect until Friday, Jan. 16 at 9 a.m., warning that visibility can drop to one-quarter mile or less. Patchy dense fog can produce sudden reductions in visibility and create hazardous driving conditions. Drivers should reduce speed, allocate extra travel time, use low-beam headlights or fog lights to increase vehicle visibility, and avoid high beams that cause glare. Maintain larger following distances to allow for sudden stops and use road lane markings to stay oriented. If visibility approaches zero, activate hazard lights and pull into a safe parking area until conditions improve.
