The Boring Company used a roughly tennis-court-sized pond in Las Vegas to dump excess drilling fluids from its Vegas Convention Center Loop work, turning the water a noxious green. Workers covered fencing with tarps and confronted a news cameraman while a company spokesperson called the pond "certainly not being hidden." County inspectors found at least two separate dumping sites and evidence that dumping continued after a representative agreed to stop. Officials issued a $500,000 fine for illegal dumping of "drilling mud, spoils, and solid waste byproduct," and a county lawsuit calls the discharges knowing and intentional.
""I know what you are," a site worker said. "You're fake news.""
""[The Boring Company's] brazen refusal to stop its illicit discharges after being contact in the act, coupled with [The Boring Company's] representative's false statements to district inspector, proves [The Boring Company's] activities to be knowing and intentional,""
"Per 8NN, Musk's company was then hit with a $500,000 fine related to illegal dumping of "drilling mud, spoils, and solid waste byproduct" as far back as April of this year."
