"Temperatures could drop as low as -3C tomorrow night, as Met Éireann expects sharp to severe frosts to develop over the weekend, while thousands travel across the country after the Christmas and New Year break. Met Éireann meteorologist Gerry Murphy said that, while most areas of the country will experience crisp and dry weather this weekend, there remains the credible threat of icy conditions on roads when conditions become "more severe" next week."
"He added: "Major roads will all be gritted, and they're always very well gritted, but on some of the more minor roads, the conditions will be will be more possibly treacherous underfoot and for cars traveling as well. "So overall, in general, the precautions to be taken are for people to take care, go slow, be aware that there will be frost and icy patches over the weekend and for some places in Ulster, north Connacht, possibly some sleet and snow as well.""
