"'Abnormally high rises' in temperature"
"The most basic reason for the rising temperatures is global warming,"
"These conditions combined are a sort of 'perfect storm' that have contributed to the record temperatures we have experienced so far t"
Japan experienced its hottest summer on record in 2025, with a nationwide average temperature 2.36°C above the 1898 baseline and multiple new local and national highs. Isesaki in Gunma reached 41.8°C on August 5, and the JMA network recorded 30 occasions above 40°C, exceeding the previous annual record of 17 in 2018. More than 100,000 people were hospitalized with heatstroke during the summer. Unseasonably warm conditions persisted into October, including 35°C in Kagoshima and over 30 locations logging monthly record highs. Elevated ocean temperatures on both sides of Japan, a lingering high-pressure system, and a northward-shifted subtropical jet stream combined to amplify surface heat.
