London weather: Heavy rain hits rush hour as Met Office issues flood warning
Briefly

A yellow weather warning covers parts of south-west England, much of South Wales and now parts of south-east England. The warning runs from midnight until 14:00 on Wednesday and forecasts heavy rain, strong winds, showers and potential thunderstorms with hail and gusty winds, particularly in southern areas. Heavy rain may cause flooding in places and could interrupt power supplies and other services. Bus and train services are likely to be affected and journey times may increase. London experienced showers with possible further rain until mid-afternoon and a soggy start to the school term. The Northern Lights were visible across parts of the UK and Ireland after a powerful solar storm.
We're expecting a band of heavy rain and strong winds to move north-east through the first part of Wednesday, followed by heavy showers and the risk of thunderstorms. Some of these could bring hail and gusty winds, particularly in southern areas. Of course, the warning coincides with the first school run after the summer holidays for some, meaning a wet and potentially disruptive start to the day for many.
The warning for rain is in place from midnight until 2pm on Wednesday for south-west England and much of South Wales. The Met Office increased the area covered by the warning early on Tuesday to include parts of south-east England. There has been a damp end to the hottest UK summer on record Londoners faced a soggy start to Wednesday as commuters faced downpours on their way to work.
