Haringey Council has introduced an online map to track tree planting across the borough, aiming for a minimum of 30% tree cover in every neighborhood. In the past year, the council planted 2,000 saplings, including the establishment of mini forests at New Road Park and Paignton Park. An additional 850 saplings have been planted in urban areas as part of a larger initiative to create 6,000 new trees by 2030, with a final objective of 10,000 trees planted by that date.
The new online map devised by Haringey Council shows the number of trees already planted over the last year, aiming for every neighbourhood to achieve 30% tree cover.
Mike Hakata, the council's climate action cabinet member, noted that the planting efforts have only just begun and emphasized the goal to sustain this initiative.
In the past 12 months, the council has successfully planted 2,000 saplings, including efforts to transform areas into mini forests at New Road Park and Paignton Park.
The urban forest programme has already added another 850 saplings in various locations, contributing to a target of 10,000 new trees by 2030, with a plan to continue planting.
