A strong thunderstorm prompted a weather alert affecting the Marin Coastal Range, Sonoma Coastal Range, Coastal North Bay including Point Reyes National Seashore, and North Bay Interior Valleys. The alert ran from 3:02 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., with Doppler radar tracking a storm 11 miles southwest of Dillon Beach, 25 miles west of Petaluma, moving northeast at 40 mph. Wind gusts up to 30 mph and pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) were probable. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and dislodge unsecured objects, causing minor outdoor damage. Impacted locations included Petaluma, Sebastopol, Tomales, Dillon Beach, Occidental, Bodega Bay, and Inverness. Audible thunder indicates nearby lightning; seek indoor shelter and avoid corded phones, electrical appliances, plumbing fixtures, windows, and doors.
