"The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed on Monday morning that regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones. Stones about 4cm in size were seen in Ipswich, 5cm in Moorooka and Goonda, 5cm to 6cm in Pullenvale and 7cm in St Lucia. Lightning and rain halted play during the rugby league Test between Samoa and Tonga at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Sunday."
Severe thunderstorms swept south-east Queensland, cutting power to about 26,000 households and damaging power infrastructure across greater Brisbane. Wind gusts reached as high as 109km/h in Gayndah and about 95km/h in Amberley and Archerfield. Large hailstones were reported across multiple suburbs, with sizes ranging from roughly 4cm to 7cm. Melbourne and parts of Victoria also experienced outages after heavy rain, with more than 1,300 customers affected and numerous SES requests for building damage, downed trees and flooding. Crews worked through the night to restore power while damp conditions and a coastal trough kept the risk of further wet weather.
