As art market regulations tighten, international dealer association calls for 'unity' across trade
Briefly

The International Confederation of Art and Antique Dealers' Associations, Cinoa, has called for solidarity in the art market following new EU import licensing regulations. This appeal was made during their annual meeting in Milan, coinciding with the appointment of Patrick Mestdagh as president. The new regulations mandate proof of legal acquisition for cultural goods over 200 years old, putting significant pressure on small dealers. Cinoa aims to facilitate dialogue with policymakers and seeks coordinated action against ongoing challenges faced by the trade, where strict regulations are burdening small businesses.
"Now is the time to unite-dealers, curators, scholars, collectors-to defend the art trade as a guardian of global heritage," Mestdagh said in a press release.
"The burden of all these new rules, particularly on micro to small businesses is huge. It's not something a market can develop an infrastructure for overnight," comments Erika Bochereau.
