Germany is set to enhance its military presence in the North Atlantic and Arctic as Russian submarine activity increases. German Defense Minister Pistorius confirmed that a support ship will travel through Greenland and Canada, participating in military exercises alongside allies. The Danish government allocated $2.3 billion to boost security in the Arctic. This includes collaboration with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, as tensions rise regarding security and resource access in the region, particularly reflecting on U.S. interests in Greenland.
"As early as this year, Germany will show its presence in the North Atlantic and the Arctic," Pistorius said, reflecting a commitment to enhancing security in these regions.
The Danish government announced at the beginning of the year it would spend 14.6 billion kroner ($2.3 billion) on strengthening security in the area, in collaboration with Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
