A tragic cable car accident near Naples has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, with one person seriously injured and another unaccounted for. According to Umberto De Gregorio, the chairman of the EAV public transport company that operates the cable car, the incident involved the cabin crashing due to a possible snapped cable. Complicating rescue efforts are adverse weather conditions including fog and high winds, as noted by regional authorities.
"The cabin at the top has crashed," said Umberto De Gregorio, chairman of the EAV public transport company which runs the cable car service.
Rescue operations were being hampered by fog and high winds, Vincenzo De Luca, head of the Campania region around Naples, told RAI public television.
