Fortuna Sittard's aspirations for European football next season have been thwarted due to missing essential paperwork, as they failed to secure a Uefa license ahead of the April 8 deadline. Currently sitting ninth in the Eredivisie, Fortuna would have had the chance to compete for a play-off position in the Uefa Conference League. General manager Martijn Merks expressed disappointment but emphasized the importance of transparency and commitment to preparing for the next season, while ensuring compliance with licensing requirements going forward.
The club did not meet all the requirements, including the submission of an external auditor's report in accordance with Uefa rules.
It is disappointing that we cannot reward a great sporting season; however, we are preparing for the new Eredivisie season.
