Cyprus has been reported as having the cleanest swimming water globally, with 99.2 percent of its 123 tested waters rated excellent. The country has improved from last year's report, which showed 97.6 percent ranked as excellent. Bulgaria and Greece follow in second and third place, respectively. Coastal bathing waters have higher quality scores compared to inland sites since they are less prone to pollution. Although Europe boasts many well-rated bathing sites, 332 sites remain poor quality, a slight improvement from previous years.

Bulgaria ranked second place with 97.9 percent excellent ratings from 94 tested bodies of water, while Greece followed in third with 97 percent from 1729 tested waters.
Bathing water quality at coastal sites had a higher percentage of excellent rankings than inland waters, due to coastal waters being less susceptible to pollution.
Despite the high rankings, 332 sites across Europe remain classified as poor quality, although there has been a decrease in this percentage since 2009.
