In Azerbaijan, a Muslim country with very few Catholics, the pope managed to foster goodwill through his demeanor, even while dealing with protests in Georgia. The author highlights an instance of the pope’s kindness and quick-thinking, showcasing his ability to maintain perfect manners amidst adversity, ultimately creating a moment of connection and respect despite the surrounding tension.
During my observations following Pope Francis in Azerbaijan, I noted how even in uncomfortable situations, he exemplified grace and quick-thinking, embodying perfect manners.
In Azerbaijan, despite the here and now social pressure and hostility, the pope navigated interactions beautifully, demonstrating heartfelt respect and understanding to the cultural landscape.
