Israel committing genocide in Gaza, says EU's former top diplomat
Briefly

Josep Borrell, the former EU foreign policy chief, condemned the Israeli government's actions in Gaza as genocide, describing it as the largest ethnic cleansing since WWII. He criticized the EU for inadequate responses and highlighted the humanitarian crisis, stating that Israel's bombings have caused unprecedented destruction with immense civilian suffering. He expressed concern over the starvation tactics used against Gazans and accused Israel of violating conflict rules. Borrell urged European leaders to recognize the situation's gravity and act decisively rather than expressing mere regret.
We're facing the largest ethnic cleansing operation since the end of the second world war in order to create a splendid holiday destination once all the millions of tonnes of rubble have been cleared from Gaza and the Palestinians have died or gone away, he said in a characteristically direct speech.
Three times more explosive power has been dropped on Gaza than was used in the Hiroshima bomb, he said.
Borrell went on to take Europe to task for shirking its moral and humanitarian responsibilities.
He added: We all know what's going on there, and we've all heard the objectives stated by Netanyahu's ministers, which are clear declarations of genocidal intent.
