""The union club supports this initiative. We believe that it is already a stressful and opaque process to get a citizenship. People wait for a long time and don't always know when the process will end, and that affects their families and work situation.""
""If we start changing the rules in a haphazard way, without properly introducing transitional rules and making sure that it can be done in a way that doesn't erode trust, I think eventually Sweden will become a less attractive place to work.""
""We have a need for highly educated and skilled persons, but we also need people in general in the Swedish labour market. That's the thing that worries us.""
Spotify Workers Unionen and the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees support a campaign for transitional rules in Sweden's citizenship overhaul. The new rules, effective June 6th, increase residency requirements and mandate proof of language and civics knowledge. The proposal applies the new rules to all applications from that date, affecting nearly 100,000 pending applications. Concerns arise over the lack of a grace period, which could deter skilled workers and impact the labor market negatively.
