Exclusive: Swiss startup picks Rotterdam for green aviation fuel plant
Briefly

Swiss startup Metafuels has announced the opening of its first commercial-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant, named Turbe, in Rotterdam. CEO Saurabh Kapoor emphasized that this plant marks a pivotal move towards increasing SAF production, as Europe aims for ambitious decarbonization targets. Integrated with Evos' storage facility, Turbe will utilize Metafuels' aerobrew technology to convert renewable methanol into jet fuel with significantly lower emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. The facility is expected to start production by 2028, pending necessary accreditation with plans to scale output substantially thereafter.
Metafuels is set to significantly advance sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in Europe with its new plant in Rotterdam, signaling an urgent need to meet aviation’s decarbonization targets.
