NATO backs Welsh startup building space factory for 'supermaterials'
Briefly

Welsh startup Space Forge has secured $30 million in funding for its ForgeStar-2 satellite, which will enable commercial in-orbit manufacturing. This financing marks the largest Series A funding in UK space technology history, led by the NATO Innovation Fund. ForgeStar-1, a demonstrator satellite, will be launched for testing this year. Though it won't return safely, it aims to validate the production of high-quality crystal 'seeds' for advanced materials, which could enhance semiconductor efficiency and other applications in various industries.
Space Forge predicts its crystal seeds could be worth up to $1 million each.
Our satellites utilise the zero-gravity, ultra-cold, vacuum environment of space to produce tiny crystals of a higher quality than could ever be made otherwise.
