"In his ruling, Pedraz refers to case law from the Tribunal Supremo, which establishes that the Audiencia Nacional would only have jurisdiction in a case of this nature if all the alleged offences under investigation had been committed abroad. As this condition is not met, the judge has ruled out opening proceedings in this court."
"The decision does, however, leave open the possibility for the complainant, Navarro, to file the complaint again before the ordinary courts of Barcelona, which would be the competent bodies to examine the facts should they deem it appropriate."
"Laporta, for his part, has been defiant in the face of the complaints, claiming that it is an attempt to try and destabilise his re-election campaign. 'It will not work for them to make false accusations, full of lies, to tarnish an exemplary electoral process like ours,' he said in a recent media interaction."
A Barcelona club member filed a complaint against former FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and board members, alleging money laundering and improper payments. Judge Santiago Pedraz of the National Court rejected the complaint, determining the court lacked jurisdiction. According to case law from the Tribunal Supremo, the National Court only has authority when all alleged offences occur abroad. Since this condition was not met, proceedings were not opened. The complainant may refile before Barcelona's ordinary courts. Laporta dismissed the allegations as destabilization attempts during his re-election campaign, claiming they are false accusations and suggesting the complainant does not act independently.
