UEFA monitoring Middle East situation over Finalissima scheduling
"UEFA is monitoring and carefully assessing all developments of the situation in cooperation with CONMEBOL and the [local organizing committee]. European's football government body told The Associated Press on Monday."
"The solution, as I understand, would be to find another venue, if possible, while the matches can't be played there. I think that's pretty much the direction the negotiations are heading. People are working on it at all levels."
UEFA is closely monitoring developments regarding the Finalissima between European champions Spain and Copa América winners Argentina scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The Qatar football federation postponed all tournaments and matches following U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran. UEFA stated it is assessing the situation in cooperation with CONMEBOL and local organizers. Spain coach Luis de La Fuente suggested relocating the match to another venue as the best solution. CONMEBOL and FIFA have not yet made official statements about potential changes. The match would feature Barcelona's Lamine Yamal against Inter Miami's Lionel Messi. Argentina also has a scheduled friendly against Qatar on March 31.
