Emily Skinner will join Luke Newton in the Off-Broadway play House of McQueen, with performances beginning August 19 and an official opening on September 9. Newton will portray designer Lee Alexander McQueen, while Skinner plays his mother, Joyce. The play details McQueen's journey from emerging designer to the head of a major fashion house, and addresses his tragic passing. Additionally, it will explore McQueen's relationships with significant figures, using advanced LED panel technology to create dynamic settings.
The new play will take audiences through Lee's life, from his early days as an emerging designer, to later building one of the most important fashion houses in the world, and ultimately his tragic passing.
Newton, best known for playing Colin in Netflix's Bridgerton, will portray late designer Lee Alexander McQueen with Tony nominee Skinner as his mother Joyce McQueen.
Intimate relationships with key figures in the designer's life—including mentor Isabella Below—will be explored utilizing a highly produced landscape with floor-to-ceiling LED panels designed to shift environments.
Performances will begin August 19 prior to an official opening September 9 in the new theatrical venue, The Mansion at Hudson Yards.
