Filmmaker Sepideh Farsi's documentary "Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk" aimed to depict the daily life of Palestinians under war through the perspective of photojournalist Fatma Hassona in Gaza. Connected through a friend, Farsi collaborated with Hassona for months, documenting their FaceTime conversations. However, shortly before the film's premiere at L'ACID in Cannes, Hassona was tragically killed alongside her family by an Israeli missile strike. The film now holds a deeper significance as a tribute to her vibrancy and strength amidst ongoing violence in the region.
"We had watched and programmed a film in which this young woman's life force was nothing short of miraculous. It is no longer the same film that we will be supporting, supporting, and presenting in every theater."
"I filmed, catching the moments offered by our video calls, what Fatem was offering, fiery and full of life. I told myself I had no right to fear for her, if she herself was not afraid."
