I'm not a big CGI guy': Guns N' Roses axeman Slash on remaking trashy classic Deathstalker
Briefly

Slash is producing a requel of the cult classic Deathstalker, which premiered at the Locarno film festival. His interest in the film stems from nostalgia; it was frequently shown during his time at Tower Video. The project involves Canadian producers and director Steve Kostanski, known for practical effects and a style reminiscent of past fantasy films like Krull and Conan the Barbarian. The film aims to capture the tongue-in-cheek, low budget charm of the original while serving as a unique version rather than a direct remake. Daniel Bernhardt stars in the lead role.
When I was working at Tower Video, we had it on the monitors all the time. It was a real popular popcorn movie, he says.
I loved Krull and the original Conan the Barbarian, says Slash. And I loved Deathstalker. It was sort of tongue-in-cheek, exaggerated and low budget, and it had this great theme song.
I knew that Steve could make it better than the budget. Other fantasy films from the period proved an inspiration.
It was really a passion project.
