At Coachella, Rivers Cuomo announced that Weezer is developing a 'mockumentary' film in Los Angeles, with Keanu Reeves cast as the villain. This project is said to resemble a blend of 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' and 'Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.' The historical connection between Reeves and Weezer dates back to 1992, when Weezer opened for Reeves' band Dogstar. The film, involving a three-decade rivalry, will also feature Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, and Ben Schwartz, with direction from Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
While playing at Coachella last weekend, frontman Rivers Cuomo let it slip that the band was working on a "Weezer movie back in L.A.".
A mockumentary described as a cross between Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, with Keanu Reeves playing the villain.
Reeves and Weezer actually go way back: the band's first-ever public gig was opening for Reeves' own group, Dogstar, in 1992.
Along with Reeves, the Weezer movie will reportedly star Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, and Ben Schwartz, in addition to the band members themselves.
