"As we enter another war ... I hope Brent's work and the work of all the fallen journalists helps people pause for a minute and think about the impact that these wars will have. The film is both a tribute to him and a bigger story about all the journalists who were being killed."
"Brent was a longtime filmmaker who had reported across the globe, including in Colombia and Mexico, Egypt, Somalia, Iraq, Libya, Haiti, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan, much of his work done with his brother and filmmaking partner Craig Renaud."
Brent Renaud, an acclaimed Peabody Award-winning filmmaker and photojournalist, was killed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine in March 2022 at age 50, becoming the first Western journalist killed by Russian forces in the conflict. He traveled to Ukraine to film refugees for a documentary series. Brent had an extensive career reporting from conflict zones and developing nations worldwide, including Colombia, Mexico, Egypt, Somalia, Iraq, Libya, Haiti, China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, often collaborating with his brother Craig. Craig Renaud has created a documentary titled Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud, which serves as both a tribute to his brother and a broader examination of journalists killed in conflicts. The film is nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards.
