A screening of Wicked: For Good at the Smith Rafael Film Center featured a post-screening Q&A with director Jon Chu and stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Chris Columbus moderated the conversation, asking about character craft, child stardom and directorial choices. Chu explained that two screenplay versions existed when he signed on—a one-film and a two-film option—and defended choosing two films to avoid cutting too much and to preserve a complete experience. Chu recalled first seeing Wicked at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre and said he protects that memory to recreate a first-time audience experience.
