Aunt Gladys, a creepy but silly villain portrayed by Oscar-nominated Amy Madigan, will receive an origin-story prequel. Director and writer Zach Cregger is in talks with Warner Bros. to develop the prequel and says the project has a story and excites him. Cregger had the concept before the initial film's release and felt ready to expand the same universe. A Gladys origins segment existed but was cut from the original film; Warner Bros. is now picking up that material for further development following the film's critical and box office success.
"It is real and I've been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There's a story and I'm pretty excited about it. It's not bullshit."
"I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out."
