Spike Lee appears in a good mood during a video chat, wearing his signature baseball cap and thick-framed glasses. The walls behind him display art, murals of his idols, and movie posters, including a signed Akira Kurosawa poster. Lee proudly shows a wooden bat signed by Hall of Famer Willie Mays. Lee and Denzel Washington reunite after nearly 20 years for Highest 2 Lowest, a reimagining of Kurosawa's 1963 police procedural High and Low. The film is in theaters now and will be available on Apple TV+ on September 5. Washington sent Lee a script by Alan Fox and Lee accepted immediately.
The dynamic duo is back!
"He called me up - I didn't even recognize his phone number," Lee, 68, told Business Insider, recalling when Washington contacted him. "We haven't done anything since 'Inside Man,' which was 18, 19 years ago. He told me he was going to send me the script, and before I even hung up the phone, I knew I was doing it."
