The Oscars Completely Shut Out Wicked: For Good
"Who can say if they've been changed for the better? But, because they viewed you,Oscars voters have been changed ... for worse. Fellow Ozians, The Wicked: For GoodWitch of the West is dead, at least in the eyes of awards season, as the sequel to last year's critically acclaimed musical blockbuster got completely shut out of this year's Academy Awards nominations."
"The biggest snub to come out of this morning is that Ariana Grande did not receive a Best Supporting Actress nomination for playing Glinda, a role that positioned her as a front-runner nominee last year before she lost to Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez. But this year, even a well-timed Sunday in the Park With George announcement wasn't enough for Grande to flip it around. She can now hang up the pink red-carpet looks for good."
"Wicked: For Good also failed to score any noms in the Best Original Song category, despite having two new qualifying songs written specifically for the film by original Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz. Neither "No Place Like Home" nor "Girl in the Bubble" were particularly good or memorable, but still, this category was maybe the sequel's best chance to distinguish itself from the first movie, which did not include any original music, because Act One of Wicked is, frankly, stacked."
Wicked: For Good was completely shut out of this year's Academy Awards nominations. The original Wicked film received ten nominations in 2025 and won Oscars for Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales). Ariana Grande did not receive a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Glinda despite being a prior frontrunner. The sequel also failed to place any songs in the Best Original Song category, even though Stephen Schwartz wrote two new qualifying songs, "No Place Like Home" and "Girl in the Bubble," which were described as unmemorable.
