Brandon Dawson, an engineer and gardening enthusiast from Santa Rosa, won the top prize at the 52nd World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay with a 2,346-pound jack-o'-lantern gourd. He celebrated by pumping his arms in the air and placing his two children atop the giant pumpkin after being crowned winner. The pumpkin's weight approximates that of a small sedan or a large bison. Giant pumpkins were lifted by forklifts onto scales for weighing. Spectators photographed, tapped and inspected pumpkins, including bottom inspections and weight-guessing based on hollowness, with costumed attendees present.
