Bay Area locals are flocking to a sandwich shop for its hard-to-find ice cream
"Booza, a unique Arabic ice cream, is denser and stretchier than regular ice cream, made from salep and mastic gum, and has quickly become popular at Roast & Toast."
"Co-owner Fadi Alhour reports that booza has made up about 90% of sales since its April introduction, showing high local demand for this specialty dessert."
Roast & Toast, a new cafe in North Berkeley, introduced booza, a dense Arabic ice cream, to its menu in April. Booza, made with salep and mastic gum, is known for its unique stretchy consistency. Co-owner Fadi Alhour has dedicated his time daily to produce this ice cream, which has quickly accounted for 90% of his sales. Customers can choose from four flavors at the booza cart in the cafe, and the dessert is served with generous portions and various toppings.
