"One of my favorite things to eat when I'm in Thailand is leng saap, a tower of pork ribs drowned in an aggressively spicy blend of fish sauce, lime, and Thai chiles that's often served with cubes of pork blood. It's a dish that's hard to come across in Los Angeles, but I enjoyed it recently in an unlikely place: Haemaru Sullungtang in Koreatown."
"Occupying a much larger indoor space compared to the Glendale original, Ozzy's has really dialed in its situation here. A huge colorful street art-style mural of the proverbial Ozzy (owner Chris Wallace's chihuahua) commands the lion's share of the space, while an open kitchen allows for a fun view of the pizza-making. I'm a fan of New Haven-style pizza after multiple trips to the Connecticut city, and I'm pleased to report that Ozzy's in North Hollywood is better than ever."
Haemaru Sullungtang in Koreatown serves a Thai-style leng saap: tender pork ribs drenched in an aggressively spicy fish-sauce, lime, and Thai chile blend often accompanied by cubes of pork blood. The owners reverse-engineered the dish after encountering it in Thailand and placed it alongside their sullungtang, army stews, kimchi samgyeopsal stew, and crunchy mung bean pancakes. Ozzy's Apizza in North Hollywood occupies a larger indoor space with a colorful street-art mural and an open kitchen, and its New Haven-style pizza delivers a properly blackened crust with cornmeal-driven crunch and a crisp bottom.
