Marks and Spencer's new foodhall in Leytonstone will open on July 17 at 9am. Located on High Road, the 12,000 ft supermarket replaces the former Matalan store and includes a bakery, coffee station, and sections for flowers and wine, along with fresh produce. The store has hired 55 staff members, including 14 through the Marks and Start employability scheme aimed at supporting disadvantaged youth. Local residents were also employed via partnerships with pre-employment programs, demonstrating community engagement.
Chelsea Themistokleous, store manager at M&S Leytonstone, stated that the Marks & Start colleagues have already "impressed everyone" during their work experience, highlighting the success of the program.
Cllr Ahsan Khan emphasized, "Supporting our young residents into employment is a priority for us at the council, and I am delighted that Waltham Forest residents have secured new jobs through the Marks and Start programme."
