Too hungry to think, too weak to sit upright. Concentration slips away': the struggle to stay focussed as an academic in Gaza
Briefly

Since March 2, 2025, Israel has enforced a full blockade on Gaza, limiting essential supplies such as food, medicine, and fuel. This blockade has led to empty markets and closed bakeries, contributing to widespread malnutrition and hunger. The World Health Organization reported 74 malnutrition-related deaths in Gaza in 2025, with 63 occurring in July alone, including 24 children under five. Humanitarian aid airdrops have been labeled ineffective, while distribution points set up by various organizations have been criticized for putting lives at risk. Famine is currently pervasive in the region.
