Brigitte Macron appeals acquittal of two women in trans rumour case
Briefly

Brigitte Macron has appealed a Paris appeals court decision that overturned convictions against two women who claimed she is transgender. The false rumor circulated online after a YouTube video was posted by anti-vaxxer Amandine Roy and journalist Natacha Rey. In December 2021, they falsely claimed her deadname was Jean-Michel Trogneux, which trended on social media. A lower court previously ordered the women to pay damages to Brigitte and her brother for spreading the rumor. Such claims, particularly from the political far-right, have resurfaced multiple times, resembling similar rumors about Michelle Obama.
