Eurostar to operate double-decker trains in the UK for the first time
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters"
"Eurostar has placed an initial order for 30 trains and has an option for an additional 20. The fully electric fleet will be named Eurostar Celestia, which is derived from the Latin word caelestis, meaning heavenly. Compared with the operator's existing fleet of 17 single-decker Siemens-built e320s, the new trains will have 20 per cent more seats, a lower floor and be 16cm taller. Double-decker"
Eurostar plans to operate double-decker trains in the UK for the first time, ordering up to 50 two-storey trains. A £2bn (€1.7bn) agreement with French manufacturer Alstom will build the trains in France, with an initial order for 30 and an option for 20 more. The fully electric fleet will be named Eurostar Celestia, derived from the Latin caelestis, meaning heavenly. Compared with the 17 single-decker Siemens-built e320s, the new trains will offer about 20% more seats, a lower floor and be 16cm taller. They will operate in addition to the e320s, giving Eurostar up to 67 trains. The Independent requests donations to fund on-the-ground journalism and keep reporting free without paywalls.
