French Intelligence Rejects Durov Allegation Of Romanian Election Meddling
Briefly

Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, claimed that French intelligence asked him to censor right-wing comments in Romania before a key presidential election. He refused this request and posted about it on social media. The election resulted in a surprising win for centrist Nicusor Dan. The French intelligence agency DGSE denied making such requests, but reiterated the necessity of reminding Durov of his obligations to curb illegal activities on the platform. Durov has had past legal troubles in France but continues to manage Telegram from abroad.
Durov alleged that French intelligence requested he censor conservative Romanian comments prior to the presidential election, a claim rejected by the DGSE.
The DGSE stated it had to remind Durov of his responsibilities regarding the prevention of misuse of Telegram for illegal activities.
