The police raid comes as Dati, who heads the town hall in the upmarket seventh district of Paris, is campaigning to be elected overall mayor of the French capital next year."
"The national financial prosecutor's office on Thursday said it had opened an investigation on October 14th into Dati over possible corruption, influence peddling and embezzlement of public funds. It said the searches targeted locations including "the city hall of Paris's seventh district and the ministry of culture, as well as private residences". A source close to the case told AFP that a search was conducted at Dati's home."
French police searched Culture Minister Rachida Dati's home, the ministry of culture and the Paris town hall she presides over as part of a corruption probe. The national financial prosecutor opened an investigation on October 14 into possible corruption, influence peddling and embezzlement of public funds. Dati is accused of accepting nearly €300,000 in undeclared payments from GDF Suez while serving in the European Parliament between 2010 and 2011 and has denied wrongdoing. Media outlets and the European Parliament's ethics committee previously raised questions about payments that transited a now-defunct law firm, STC Partners, and Dati has faced other related charges.
