France Wants to Roll Out Robot Army by 2040
Briefly

Despite a decline in armed conflicts globally, military spending is surging due to advancements in military technology. Between 2021 and 2023, U.S. venture capitalists invested $100 billion in military tech startups. France plans to deploy robotic systems by 2028, with military leaders emphasizing a transition toward high-intensity warfare and advanced capabilities. General Bruno Baratz outlined ambitions for robotic warriors to perform tasks like surveillance and mine clearing, showcasing trials with units navigating simulated battlefield conditions, underscoring the shift toward automated warfare in the future of military strategy.
"We hope to have something fairly evolved within three years, with the first ground robot capabilities ready to equip our forces," Baratz said at a military robotics exercise near Paris.
"Deploying evolved systems with practical utility to our combat elements well ahead of 2040," referencing a target date for robot deployment set back in 2021.
"Now we need to prove [the robots] can be more effective when they come into contact with troops on the field," Baratz noted during the military trials.
Countries like France are preparing for high-intensity warfare by upgrading existing equipment and investing in drone and robotics programs for future military applications.
