Israel ordered forced displacement of Nabatieh’s population during an escalation aimed at Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Israeli shelling hit towns around Nabatieh with near-continuous artillery, while air strikes struck areas including a cemetery within city limits. Surrounding villages such as Yohmor al-Shaqif were hit multiple times. Hezbollah responded with artillery and drone strikes against advancing Israeli forces near Zawtar al-Sharqiya in the Nabatieh district. Nabatieh is a major city and municipality in southern Lebanon about 11 km from the border, located above the Litani River. The Litani has been central to prior ceasefire arrangements and international agreements requiring Hezbollah to withdraw north of the river.
"Nabatieh is a city and a municipality in southern Lebanon that sits above the Litani River, and about 11km (seven miles) from the southern border. The Litani has been a focal point of past ceasefire and international agreements, often stating that Hezbollah's presence should retreat to the north of the Litani. Surrounding Nabatieh city are a number of villages that have also been regularly attacked or destroyed by Israeli attacks."
